My Long Scarf

I wore my long scarf
As I walked in to see my therapist
The sun was shining
The air was crisp and cool that Autumn
A bird chirped nearby
Singing a new song for a new day
I learned to be open
Or at least how to try to be open
That I was guarded
And maybe my defenses weren't needed
At least not right now
Not with who I wanted to try to
And that I could be
I could simply be me and that was okay
I wore my long scarf
And walked calmly into the future
